In preparation for NaNoWriMo

So, I've mentioned a few times I will be participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time. I'll be writing a backstory that will come in handy as reference material for my current WIP. Since the main character of my NaNoWriMo project is a character that has up to this point only existed in legend (meaning the legends of my second-world creation) I decided it might prove wise to try my hand at writing a short story with this character.

So, I started the short story on Monday, writing just under 500 words. This evening I came back to it and finished it, hammering out another 3700 words. This is encouraging. Since I will need to average 2000 words a day (since the odds I will be able to write at all on Fridays during NaNoWriMo are slim to none) to hit 50,000, that I flew through 3700 words writing this character I look forward to my writing project. For some reason this character has just sprung to life.

Hopefully when it comes to writing her story for NaNoWriMo the words will continue to flow and she will remain just as alive for her novel as she did today for her short story.
