Reading and Writing

One thing I did not manage to do this first half of the year was read as much as I would have liked. I plan on fixing that in this second half. At the moment, I have a list of books lined up that will keep me busy for the remainder of the year, and I have a sub-list of books recommended that are outside of my norm to break up my reading pattern.

And I plan on writing a lot more this second half. I'm not sure how many words I've written, but the total is far below my expectations. However, since relocating from the south back up to New York was involved and which meant living in a hotel for most of 3 months, while changing what book would be my active WIP, I'm glad I actually accomplished anything constructive on the writing front. Even now that I am into my new place, I am without a desk as the last one was left behind.

I'd like to finish the first draft of my current WIP. I don't know if that will be possible yet as the scope of this story has grown dramatically (which actually mirrors the 5 novel sequel that I was working on and set aside to write the stand alone prelude story) from its original construction o so many years ago. I'll have a more realistic sense of what I should be able to accomplish by the end of August.

For now though, my reading list:

Mad Kestrel by Misty Massey madkestrel
The Awakened Mage by Karen Miller karenmiller
The Chalion books by Lois McMaster Bujold
Books 2 thru 7 of Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott kateelliott
Inda by Sherwood Smith sartorias
Fox by Sherwood Smith
All of the published Deverry books by Katharine Kerr
The Retrievers series by Laura Anne Gilman suricattus
Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin grrm
Feast for Crows by George R. R. Martin

And sprinkled throughout all the above will be various books by:

-Italo Calvino
-Bohumil Hrabal
-Jeanette Winterson
-James Baldwin

And I have another, still growing, list ready to go after all of the above.
